Souper Bowl February 5, 2023

The Arts Alliance of Greater Lake Mills held a Souper Bowl fundraiser to tackle hunger in our community on February 5, 2023, at the St. Francis Xavier Parish Center in Lake Mills.

Event proceeds totaling $4094.24 were divided between Sunrise Reach Food Pantry and the Lake Mills Food Pantry of SVdP, which each received $2044.12.

Shown in the photo back row, left to right are: Jason Palmquist, Lane Smith and Tom Skupniewitz. In the front are Melissa Roglitz-Walker representing Sunshine Reach and Kathy Hansen repesenting the Lake Mills Food Pantry.

The Arts Alliance of Greater Lake Mills’ Souper Bowl concept follows the example of the Empty Bowl project in Michigan. AAGLM invited the Lake Mills community to glaze hundreds of pre-made bisque bowls in sessions held over several months. Once glazed, artist Thomas (Bud) Skupniewitz fired the bowls in his studio. Joe Kiefer and the fourth-grade class at Lake Mills Elementary also glazed and fired 50 bowls.

On event day, people purchased a bowl to take home and enjoyed unlimited soup, along with bread, drinks, and desserts. The delicious soup was donated by The Hub, Lake Mills Market, Sunshine Brewing Company, The Grist, Kroghville Oasis, Café on the Park, and local chefs Beth and Jason Dunn.

Ten local artists donated items for a raffle, as did local businesses, TT’s Timeout, Lake Milled Crafts, Rubbish Restyled & Company, Royal Brush, Daydream Believer Books & Gifts, and The Green Home.

Sponsors of the 2023 Souper Bowl included TSL Graphics, re/Max Community Realty, Edward Jones/Korab Krasniqui, and US Solar Network.

AAGLM thanks our sponsors, as well as the artists and Lake Mills businesses, for their generous gifts. We're appreciative of the restaurants and chefs who donated the amazing soup. And we're thankful to the Lake Mills community for coming out to glaze bowls and showing up to tackle hunger in our community!

Photo Workshop February 25, 2023

Angie Szabo, Artist and Fort Atkinson High School Art Educator, and volunteer artists from her FAHS National Art Honor Society will be presenting the reasons behind taking photos, how to compose an interesting image, and how to use the technology already in our hands to help us take great photographs. The goal of this workshop is to help the novice photographer gain confidence, and to help those that don't yet know how to utilize their smart phone as a professional camera. We will start by discussing our own motivations for taking a photo, as knowing our goals helps us to capture images that impact or affect others. Next, we will build an understanding of composition, as well as elements of a great photograph, so we know what to look for when composing our images. Then we will explore our phone cameras to gain a stronger grasp of our tools so we can maximize the quality of our work. Lastly, you will have time to practice capturing images utilizing the tools and techniques discussed with the support of student helpers.
